Should the public pay hundreds of milions of dollars in bond funds for the Miami Art Museum- when the public process has been almost minimal? We question the public process, the public financial oversight, and the park design. Most major American art museums are largely funded by private donors. While the Museum of Science has been open about the fundraising process, MAM with a pitifully small art collection, has apparently erroneously reported millions in pledges that it cannot document. It does not deserve to get so much public money and take this prime waterfront land. That is socialism for the rich. Is that something we want? What kinds of oversight exists to watch the matching money assured by the museums BEFORE public funds are advanced? We think it is totally inadequate. Speak out and contact City of Miami Commissioners before May 10 vote to advance MAM more public money. See the sample letter and list of commissioners under the resources button at the top of this screen. We are not against museums. They are important community assets. But we need more respoinsible public officials to watch our money. We also need more local donoras to help fund the museums. Anad we need to retain as much green space in Miami as possible.
